Readers' review...
This book is a breath of fresh air; it approaches the subject of lighting in the landscape in a professional but easy to follow way, with the most amazing photographs to back the text. There are sections directed at the various aspects of lighting - the overall effect, different illuminations and how they are achieved, lighting techniques and also a chapter on common mistakes.
Each chapter has a written introduction followed by a series of photographic illustrations of the points covered. The examples are taken from worldwide landscapes, and include subjects as diverse as the desert and winter snow scenes. There is a large variation in the size and concept of the chosen sites, from the external illumination of a large house and parking area to a view from a window in different seasons enhanced by exterior lighting.
The glossary is comprehensive and ensures the reader is aware of the technical descriptions of terms used. There is a directory of the various professionals whose work appear in the book. A book for the keen amateur, or an essential reference book for the professional designer, it really is "The Art of Outdoor Lighting."
